Terms of Service
Last updated: October 6, 2026
These terms cover your use of Lumen. They are written to be readable. If something here does not make sense, email us before you rely on it.
1. Agreement
By downloading, installing, or using Lumen you agree to these terms. If you are agreeing on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation, and "you" refers to it.
If you do not agree, do not use the software. You must be at least 13 years old to use Lumen. If you are between 13 and 18 you need a parent or guardian's permission.
2. The service
Lumen is a Windows desktop application that captures content you explicitly select and sends it to a language model to produce an answer. It is provided as-is, with the accuracy limitations inherent in machine-generated output.
- Model output can be wrong. Do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial, or safety critical decisions. Verify anything that matters.
- We may add, change, or remove features, and adjust daily limits, as the product develops. Material changes to paid features will be communicated in advance.
- Free-tier limits exist to keep the service available to everyone. They are enforced per account per day and may change with demand.
3. Your accounts
- You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your credentials secure. Tell us promptly if you think your account has been compromised.
- You must provide accurate information and keep it current.
- One account per person. We may suspend accounts used to evade free-tier limits, including through multiple accounts or shared credentials.
4. Subscriptions and payment
Paid plans are billed in advance through our payment processor. Prices are shown at purchase and exclude any sales tax that may apply in your jurisdiction.
- Automatic renewal.
- Paid plans renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account settings.
- Cancelling.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep paid access until then, and the plan does not renew.
- Refunds.
- If you cancel within 14 days of a purchase and have made material use of the service, we will refund you. Beyond 14 days we will generally not refund, but we will consider partial refunds where we have failed to deliver the service, or where a technical fault has materially impaired your use of it. Email us and we will decide case by case, in good faith.
- Price changes.
- We may change pricing with at least 30 days notice to active subscribers. Changes never affect a period you have already paid for.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Lumen to:
- Break the law, or infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy rights.
- Capture or process screen content you have no right to capture, including confidential material belonging to others without their authorisation.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system, or to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our infrastructure without express written permission.
- Circumvent rate limits, resell access, or otherwise misrepresent your usage.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or create derivative works from the software except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
- Use automated systems to interact with the service in a way that degrades it for others.
6. Your content and your rights to it
You keep all rights to the screen content and text you submit. We claim no ownership of your prompts, your captures, or your conversation history.
You grant us only the narrow licence needed to operate the service: to transmit your request to a model provider, to return the result, to store it if you have history enabled, and to diagnose failures. That licence ends when you delete your data or close your account, except for records we must keep for legal or accounting reasons.
7. Third-party services
Lumen relies on third-party services including Supabase, Vercel, OpenRouter, and the underlying model providers. Their availability and behaviour are outside our control. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not operate, but we are responsible for how we integrate them.
8. Termination
You may stop using Lumen and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account for breach of these terms, non-payment, or if required by law. Where we suspend for breach we will tell you why and give you a reasonable opportunity to fix it.
On termination your paid access ends immediately without a refund except where a refund is required under section 4. Sections that by their nature should survive termination survive it.
9. Disclaimers
Except as expressly stated, Lumen is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that model output will be accurate or fit for any purpose. Keep your own backups of anything important.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to Lumen.
Our total aggregate liability for all claims in any twelve-month period will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in that period or fifty US dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Lumen Systems, Inc. and its officers, employees, and agents from any claim or demand, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your use of Lumen, your breach of these terms, or your violation of anyone else's rights.
12. Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top reflects the current version. For material changes we will notify you by email or in the product at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Lumen after that means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, excluding its conflict of law rules. The courts of Delaware have exclusive jurisdiction, and both parties consent to that jurisdiction and waive any objection to venue in those courts.
Before filing anything, please email us. Most disputes are resolved in a single conversation, and we would rather do that.
14. General
If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These terms are the entire agreement between us on their subject and supersede any prior statements. You may not assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them to a successor of the business.
